Troubleshooting Classroom Projectors by Screen Colors

If you encounter a projector that will only project a solid color screen, use the information below to help troubleshoot. Try these recommended actions based on the color that is being displayed…

BLUE >>>

There is no
video source.

  1. Select a different video source on the Audiovisual controller, then switch back to your original video source.

  2. Verify the video cable is properly seated in the device being used and at the wall/floor port

  3. If using a video adapter, try using a different adapter.

 

GREEN >>>

High-bandwidth
digital content
protection error.
(HDCP)

Most often encountered on Mac computers using video adapters.

  1. If using a video adapter, try using a new adapter.

  2. Review the content you are trying to view to verify there is no copyright-protected content embedded.

NOTE:

  • Many adapters are often not compatible with HDCP requirements.

  • Older HDMI cables are not compatible with current HDCP requirements.

 

BLACK >>>

Video signal present
but not displayable.

The video resolution of the device you are using is likely too high or too low for the projector to use.  

  1. Adjust the resolution to see if the video begins to work.

NOTE:

  • The computer's video driver may need to be installed/updated.

  • The cable may be damaged or too long.
