Lab Software Life Cycle Policy


  • Ensure continuity of instruction and eliminate disruptions. 

  • Comply with software licensing. 

  • Ensure supportability and maintainability of the service.

  • Maintain version and file compatibility throughout the academic year.


  • Physical Computer Labs

  • Virtual Computer Labs

  • Cal Poly-owned devices that support learning and research


Software Revision Availability & Deployment

  • The latest software revision (as of July 31) will be available at the start of the fall quarter.

  • Upgrades will take place during the summer quarter. 

  • Software upgrades will be considered for

    • security concerns,

    • broken features/bugs,

    • or significant and relevant feature updates.  
      If a software update is approved, the update will occur during the next quarter break.
