Learn how to download and install or deactivate SolidWorks, a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) computer program.
First time SolidWorks installation
Go to software.calpoly.edu and log in with your Cal Poly account.
If you have not set up your computer to use the Software hub visit this Quickstart guide.
Use the Search Apps field located at the top of the page to search for "SolidWorks".
Select the SolidWorks logo icon to expand a more detailed view regarding the software installation/license. You will need to view these detailed notes/info to install SolidWorks.
Click the dropdown arrow, then click Download.
A “We’re starting your download.” message should appear and the “SolidWorksSetup.zip” file should copy onto your local Downloads folder.
Navigate to your local Downloads folder, then right-click the SolidWorksSetup.zip file to unzip it.
A new file called setup should appear in your folder and the Solidworks Installation Manager window will pop up.
Under the Specify type of installation field, click Install on this computer, then click the Next button.
Select the components (Visualization, CAM, simulation, 3D design, etc) you need depending on your instructor's instructions. Do not select 'Electrical' as it requires Microsoft SQL Server.
Log in to your SolidWorks account as it will automatically populate the serial numbers. If you can't log in, enter the serial number 9020 0049 5744 0233 HKHV 966G for every component you want to install, then click Next.
SolidWorks will now download to your device. Once downloaded, start Solidworks Student Edition.
The SolidWorks license activation manager will appear. To activate click the Automatically over the Internet button.
Once activated, click the Finish button. You should now have SolidWorks installed and activated on your device.
