Learn how to download and install or deactivate SolidWorks, a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) computer program.

 First time SolidWorks installation
  1. Go to Software Request.
  2. Under Software Selection, search by title and type "solidworks".
  3. Select SolidWorks Student Education Edition 2021-2022 - Windows (64 bit).
  4. Accept the terms by clicking the Yes radio button.
  5. Click on the Serial & Download info button. 
  6. Go to https://www.solidworks.com/SEK.
  7. Enter your details. Make sure you enter a valid calpoly.edu email.
  8. For the last field, select student.
  9. Scroll down to the field 'I already have a Serial Number that starts with 9020' and select yes. Also, make sure you have selected the most recent version as CalPoly will have licenses for the most recent version.
  10. Click the Request Download button. Read the Terms of Use and click the Accept and Continue button.
  11. Click on Download.
  12. You will be prompted to download the Solidworks installation manager called 'SolidworksSetup.exe'. It is required to download the Solidworks installation files. Save it to an appropriate location on your device and take note.
  13. Find your 'SolidworksSetup.exe' file. Right-click on it to find an exact, unzip or expand option. 
  14. A new file called 'Setup' should appear in your folder and the Solidworks Installation Manager window will pop up.
  15. For the field 'Specify type of installation', select, Install on this computer and click Next.
  16. Select the SOLIDWORKS components(Visualization, CAM, simulation, 3D design, etc) you need to install depending on your instructor's instructions or what you think you will need to use it for. Make sure to not select 'Electrical' as it requires Microsoft SQL Server.
  17. Try to log in to your SOLIDWORKS account as it will automatically populate the serial numbers. If you can't log in, enter the serial number 9020 0049 5744 0233 HKHV 966G for every component you want to install, then click Next.  
  18. SOLIDWORKS will now download to your device. Once downloaded, start Solidworks Student Edition.
  19. The SOLIDWORKS license activation manager will appear. Select activate Automatically over the Internet.
  20. Once activated, click Finish. You should now have SOLIDWORKS installed and activated on your device.
