Learn how to deactivate your old mobile phone and activate your new phone.

iPhone

 1 - Back up my old iPhone

Before activating your new iPhone:

  1. Back up your device.
  2. Update your iPhone
 2 - Set up my new iPhone
  1. Email the ITS Service Desk at mobile-phones@calpoly.edu to arrange a time to pick up your new iPhone. 
  2. At your scheduled time, visit the Natatorium (No. 46) to pick up your new iPhone.
  3. Turn off your old iPhone.
  4. Call Verizon at 1-877-807-4646 from a separate line. Do not call from your old or new device.
  5. Unbox your new phone and follow the onscreen instructions to set up your iPhone.
    1. Activate using a strong cell signal.
    2. Activating your new phone will deactivate your old phone.
    3. Select eduroam as your WiFi network.
  6. After activation, make a test call to see that phone service is activated, then send a test text message to someone else to verify iMessage is working.
  7. Set up Outlook (email and calendar) for iOS.
 3 - Deactivate my old iPhone

After activating your new iPhone:

  1. Erase all content and settings from your old iPhone.

  2. Return the old iPhone to your Telephone Coordinator or local tech support.

Android

 1 - Back up my old Android phone

Before activating your new Android:

  1. Back up your device.
  2. Update your Android phone.
 2 - Set up my new Android phone
  1. Email the ITS Service Desk at mobile-phones@calpoly.edu to arrange a time to pick up your new Android phone. 
  2. At your scheduled time, visit the Natatorium (No. 46) to pick up your new Android phone.
  3. Find Verizon’s Activation Guide in the Android phone box and follow the instructions or give the ITS Service Desk a specific date/time to activate cellular service on the new device for you.
    1. Activate using a strong cell signal.
    2. Activating your new phone will deactivate your old phone.
  4. Restore the back up from your old Android phone using Verizon Cloud (or your preferred backup service).
  5. Set up Outlook (email and calendar) for Android.
 3 - Deactivate my old Android phone

After activating your new Android phone:

  1. Reset your Android device to factory settings. The Android erase cycle may take 10 minutes or more to finish, depending on how much data is stored on the device or memory card.

  2. Return the old Android phone to your Telephone Coordinator or local tech support.
