Problem

"I am not receiving email messages sent to class distribution lists even though I am enrolled in the class."

Possible Issues and Solutions

  1. You may not be included in the class email membership list.

    • Solution: Find out if you are a member of the class email list by using this site to verify: lists.calpoly.edu/sympa. If you find that you aren't a member of the anticipated list, inform your instructor to add you.

  2. Email forwarding to a third-party address is enabled in your Cal Poly Portal Email Delivery Address (EDA) settings, which is possibly causing messages to be flagged as junk/spam.

    • Solution: If you have chosen to enable forwarding to a third-party email address, check the junk or spam folders for the destination account for class list emails.

This issue may include problems with:

  • class distribution lists

  • campus & departmental notifications

  • delayed delivery

Possible Issues and Solutions

  1. You may not be included as a member of the email distribution list.

    • Solution: Verify your membership status on the email or class list by visiting lists.calpoly.edu/sympa. If you are not a member, contact your instructor or the list owner to be added.

  2. Email forwarding to a third-party address is enabled in your Cal Poly Portal Email Delivery Address (EDA) settings, which may cause messages to be flagged as junk/spam or be delayed by the receiving email provider.
    Solution:

    • Check the junk or spam folders of your destination email account for the missing emails.

    • If the emails are not in the junk or spam folders, try disabling EDA forwarding. Follow these instructions to disable EDA forwarding: Remove My Email Delivery Address (EDA)

    • After disabling forwarding, access your Outlook account to retrieve all emails using these instructions: Access Email and Calendar Settings

    • (Optional) After disabling forwarding, setup Outlook to forward email. This forwarding method is more compatible. Follow the Outlook-specific instructions here: Forward My Cal Poly Email to a Different Email
