Passphrase/Password Change Re-Sync on a Cal Poly-Owned Mac

 

When you change your Cal Poly passphrase/password your Cal Poly-Owned Mac login password doesn't automatically update to match. Follow the steps below to get your passphrase/password re-synced.

Re-Syncing on macOS 15 Sequoia or older and Shared/Lab Macs

  1. After changing your Cal Poly passphrase/password, if you're not on campus, connect to the Virtual Private Network (VPN).

  2. Open NoMAD.app from the Applications folder in Finder.

  3. If you are prompted to allow keychain access, click Always Allow.
    (This will also sync your keychain password on your device for security.)

  4. A Sign in dialog box will automatically pop up.

    1. Enter your Cal Poly username (do not include @calpoly.edu) 

    2. Enter your NEW Cal Poly passphrase/password.

    3. Then click Sign In.

       

  5. The NoMAD Sync dialog box should appear.

    1. Enter your CURRENT Mac login passphrase/password in the blank field

    2. Then click Sync.

      NoMAD Sync Dialog box with text 'The password on this Mac ans you Cal Poly password are out of sync. Please enter the password you were previously using to sign into this Mac'. Highlighted button 'Sync'.

      Your Mac’s login passphrase/password is now the same as your new Cal Poly passphrase/password.

Re-syncing on macOS 26 Tahoe

  1. After changing your Cal Poly passphrase/password, if you're not on campus, connect to the Virtual Private Network (VPN).

  2. From the menu bar, click the key icon image-20251114-230432.png , then click Sign Out or Sign In.

  3. A dialog box will automatically pop up.

    1. Enter your Cal Poly username.

    2. Enter your NEW Cal Poly passphrase/password,

    3. Then click Sign In.

  4. A Password Synchronization dialog box should appear.

    1. Enter your NEW Cal Poly passphrase/password in the first field

    2. Enter your CURRENT Mac login passphrase/password in the second field

    3. Click Sync Password.

Your Mac’s login passphrase/password is now the same as your new Cal Poly passphrase/password.

Your new passphrase/password may not update immediately across all systems. If you are unable to sync your new Cal Poly passphrase/password and your computer passphrase/password, wait an hour and try again.
