Connect to CP-IoT-Secure (Gaming and Media WiFi Network)

CP-IoT-Secure is a separate wireless network for gaming and media devices on campus. This network requires a quick registration process where you will be given a unique password to connect. Examples of IoT devices include video game consoles, smart watches, Apple TVs, and smart TVs.

Attention Solano Campus Constituents Currently Using Register Wifi:

  • The Register WiFi network is still available; you may still use your device on Register WiFi as normal, as long as your device has not exceeded the one-year time span from when it was originally registered.

  • CSUM/Solano campus is no longer accepting new device registrations for the Register Wifi network.

  • If you would like to use the new CP-IoT-Secure WiFi network, please use the instructions below to register your device.

Recommended methods for connecting to personal printers on campus:

  • USB cable, AirPrint, WiFi Direct, and Bluetooth.

  • Personal printers are not supported by campus Ethernet or WiFi.

1. Register

To complete your device registration, here is what you will need to know:

  1. Your Cal Poly or CSUM username and password

  2. The device's WiFi hardware/MAC address (not Ethernet hardware address)

  3. To access the registration link, you must be connected to campus WiFi or VPN.

Using the web browser that is native to your computer operating system (Safari or Edge) to access the registration link is most effective. Chrome users have reported problems accessing the registration page.

STEP 1 | Check to see if your device is on the list of supported devices.
NOTE: To access the registration link below, you must be connected to campus WiFi or VPN.

STEP 2 | Go to IoT Device Registration and log in with your Cal Poly or CSUM email address (username@calpoly.edu or username@csum.edu) and password. Click the Log In button.

STEP 3 | Click Create Device or the Create a New Device button.

STEP 4 | Enter the device's 12-digit WiFi hardware/MAC address. Separate the characters with colons (for example, XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX). Additionally, enter your Cal Poly or CSUM email address (username@calpoly.edu or username@csum.edu) for the User Email, and select Wireless for the Device Type.

STEP 5 | If you wish to share access to your device, enter any additional Cal Poly or CSUM email addresses (username@calpoly.edu or username@csum.edu) separated with commas in the Shared With field. Then, click the Create Device button.

STEP 7 | On the next page, you will see your personalized WiFi password under the Current Password field. This password will only work on the CP-IoT-Secure network for that registered device.

2. Connect

After you successfully register your device, connect it to the CP-IoT-Secure network.

STEP 1 | Go to your device's WiFi settings and select CP-IoT-Secure

STEP 2 | Enter the password given to you during the IoT Device Registration process to connect. (This password is different from your Cal Poly or CSUM password.) If you forgot your password, see View Devices and Passwords below.

(optional)

Share Your Device

Normally, your device will not be visible to anyone else. You can choose to share your device with other Cal Poly or CSUM users so they can connect to your device, either during the IoT Device Registration process or by logging in and managing your devices (see View Devices and Passwords below).

Once sharing is enabled for another user, they will be able to see the device. If they can see the device in their AirPlay menu, it means they can use it in the same way as you. If they cannot see the device, then they have not been granted access.

View Devices and Passwords

STEP 1 | Go to IoT Device Registration and log in with your Cal Poly or CSUM email address (username@calpoly.edu or username@csum.edu) and password.

STEP 2 | Click Manage Devices, then click on the device you'd like to view.

STEP 3 | Click Edit to see specific information about a device, including its current password (for Wi-Fi devices), the device type, and who the device is shared with.

NOTE

  • The device password is unique and will not allow other devices to connect to CP-IoT-Secure.

  • If you inadvertently register a Wired device as Wireless (or vice versa), you can change the device type here.

  • The WiFi password will automatically be generated if necessary.

STEP 4 | If you make any changes, click the Update Device button.
