Class lists are configured so that only the instructor (list owner) can send to the class list using their Cal Poly email account. Students can not send email to a class list.
If an instructor would like to use their external email account to send email to the class list or allow students in the class to send email to the list, the instructor needs to change the list send option to public.
If an instructor would like to use their external email account to send email to the class list but not allow students in the class to send email to the list, then the instructor can add their external email account as an additional class list owner.

Log in to the My Cal Poly Portal > My Apps > Email Distribution Lists using a department or club account. Click on My Lists and select the list to be modified. On the List Home page, under List Configuration, select Change who can post to this list. For Who can Send messages, select Public from the drop-down menu. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Update to save the change.

Log in to the My Cal Poly Portal > My Apps > Email Distribution Lists using a department or club account. Click on My Lists and select the list to be modified. On the List Home page, under List Configuration, select Modify owners or moderators. In the Owner category, scroll down the page and add the external email address in a blank email address field. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Update to save the change.
