Generative AI (GenAI) resources (e.g., OpenAI, ChatGPT, Bard, Claude, and other large language models) have become more prevalent in academic, research, and administrative areas at Cal Poly. GenAI and its uses are changing rapidly, and the Information Security Office is committed to ensuring we keep you up to date.
Tips for Using GenAI Resources Safely and Securely:
Be careful what you share.
Do not provide any text, images, or other inputs to large language models or generative AI tools that may contain sensitive data,
such as:
Identified or de-identified student information
Personnel data
Personnel conduct information
Health data
Confidential financial data
Confidential research data (e.g., export-controlled)
Other Sensitive Cal Poly Data
Use reputable resources.
There are many generative AI resources available online. It is important to use vetted sources.
Protect your privacy.
Generative AI can be used to collect and analyze personal data. Protecting your privacy by using generative AI resources with strong privacy policies is important.
Additionally, the Center for Teaching and Learning Technology staff curated the “Resources for Teaching and Learning with AI” website to provide basic resources for using AI for teaching and learning based on their expertise in higher education, pedagogy, instructional design, writing instruction, and accessibility. The CTLT will update its webpage from time to time with current teaching and learning resources.
